ABOUT THE PROJECT

The key goal of the GREEN BUILDING EDUCATION project was to improve the knowledge of the all those involved in urban planning, design and construction in Montenegro in order to contribute more effectively to the principles of green, sustainable, ecological construction and improvement of building standards in the state.

The project had two main components. The first consisted of the Green Building Professional (GBPro) Course, created by the GBC European Regional Network and verified by the World GBC, entailing a holistic cycle of ten one-day lectures. The lecturers are national and international experts and leaders in the construction industry, who have been dealing with the topic of sustainable development and green construction for over 30 years. The ten day course, spread over 10 months, was attended by 35 employees from local self-governments and ministries, private architectural and construction companies, NGO sector as well as graduate students of architecture and mechanical engineering.

The second and final project activity entailed the creation of an exhibition, entitled The short story about green construction, which consists of 13 roll up panels, that lead the views through the basics of what is green building. The exhibition was conceptualised as a traveling graphic-information campaign, which is why roll-ups were used as the base for presentation. During 2017, the exhibition was hosted in 6 cities of Montenegro, including the Green Culture Festival, the Podgorica Sustainable Days and other, with the aim of visually presenting, increasing and explaining the main principles of green construction to a larger number of inhabitants.

At the final project Ceremony, that took place at the EU Info Centre in Podgorica on March 14th 2017, 30 individuals received the Green Building Professional Certificate. With this vocational professional training certificate those individuals became part of the World Green Building Council network that entails over 30000 professionals, volunteers and companies working towards creating the sustainable building agenda.

The GBE project was supported by the German Embassy in Podgorica, and by the project partners Municipalities of Kotor and Herceg Novi, and was kindly sponsored by the Tourist Organization of Kotor, Porto Montenegro and Knauf doo. GBC ME is sincerely grateful for the support and successful cooperation.
